The first workshop, engaging a small group of leading Palestinian citizens of Israel, facilitated by ORG, took place from 9-12 April 2012 at a residential centre in the Oxfordshire countryside.
The workshop, the first of a series of meetings, created a neutral and open space for participants to discuss the new realities and challenges facing the Palestinian community in Israel today.
The meeting initiated a process of strategic thinking that aims to:
- map strategic options available for Palestinian citizens of Israel;
- lay out possible scenarios;
- assess related priorities and risks;
- and formulate plans of action.
This is a very timely initiative; Palestinian citizens of Israel - some 1.2 million people - are now being regarded as players in their own right in the Middle East.
One of the key principles of ORG's facilitation is the establishment of independent groups, who are in charge of their own work. Over the course of the next year, the group will expand its participation and organise further meetings, workshops and consultations in the region.
