Films for peace in Sri Lanka: a new opportunity? will be the subject of a talk by Chris Langdon, a Senior Consultant for Oxford Research Group running the Reconciliation through Film project. The event coincides with Sri Lanka’s Independence Day on Wednesday 4 February. Chris will speak on plans to use documentary film and short videos and social media to help reconciliation in Sri Lanka, following 30 years of civil war.

Chris will speak about recent developments in Sri Lanka since President Rajapaska was voted out of office in January, which have begun to transform the political landscape. An interim coalition government has taken office with a mandate for a 100 day programme of change.  Also during January, Pope Francis visited Sri Lanka and called for reconciliation and healing of wounds.

He will outline Reconciliation through Film's planned work to assist local partners in Sri Lanka carrying out community-level reconciliation in all parts of the country through the use of media including a documentary called "Healing the Wounds."
