Richard Barrett CMG OBE

After a 30-year career with the British Government that included postings in Canada, Jordan, Turkey, and to the United Nations in New York, Richard Barrett was appointed by the UN Secretary-General in 2004 to lead the Al-Qaeda and Taliban Monitoring Team. He remained in that position until 2013. He was also a founder member of a system-wide Task Force established by the United Nations to address issues to do with counter terrorism. He remains engaged with a wide range of governmental and non-governmental bodies that aim to understand and counter the spread of violent extremism.
